Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate 51M viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball stated this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M watchers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
